chandrashekar swami

Chandrasekhara Swami joined Krishna Consciousness in Berkeley, California in late 1976 after meeting Srila Prabhupada at a Ratha Yatra in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park two years earlier. Later, in 1976, he was initiated by Srila Prabhupada. For the next 10 years he mostly traveled on fundraising tours around the San Francisco Bay Area and later throughout the Western half of the US. He also engaged in book distribution during that time.

In 1986, he left Berkeley Temple to become part of New Vrindavana, at first managing a nearby preaching center in Pittsburgh, then later a restaurant in Pittsburg. In 1988, he moved to New Vrindavana’s Athens, Ohio outpost for about a year before becoming one of New Vrindavana’s traveling party of traveling fund raisers which were later to become book distribution teams. In 1990 he was asked to do fundraising in the Orient, at first in Taiwan, then in Japan and Korea. This later transformed into a preaching team in New Zealand headed by Devamrita Swami.
He traveled extensively on both the North and South Islands and occasionally to Australia, Malaysia and the Philippines. In 1997, Chandrasekhara Swami came back to New Vrindavana and began traveling book distribution with Danavira Swami. He became involved in New Vrindavana local management in 2000. In 2004, was asked to come to the New York City area, by the GBC, to help with an issue involving a temple in Long Island, which eventually led to living in Brooklyn. From that time until now, his main preaching has been in the New York City area, mostly in Brooklyn and Queens but also sometimes in the other boroughs as well as neighboring states such as New Jersey and Connecticut.
